...so, about a week ago, I thought, "Maybe I'm a late bloomer, but i think mid-life is the perfect time to get contacts!" You see (no pun intended), I can no longer "cheat" without glasses, but I hate wearing them. My arms that were once long enough to hold out a menu, have shrunk--just like my exhusband used to shrink the laundry. I digress.
I can't eat without glasses...to clausterphobic. Although now that I think about it, maybe that would help me lose weight because apparently, I also can't stick to a diet program. I digress...again.
So last week....I decided I was getting contacts! I was done with switching sun/regular/no glasses. I was tired of looking for glasses. Now, it is probably important to say that I hate having things in my eye. My eyes are very sensitive. I'm a wimp with eye stuff. And no...I had not had any alcohol and drugs (legal or illegal), when I made the impulsive decision to be "glasses free."
So, the overachiever that I am, I wore them 7 hours on the first day. Yea, the doctor "recommended" 4 hours, but go big or go home is my motto. Actually, if truth be told, I was so afraid to take them out, I had three hours of anxiety attacks thinking about it. When my son said, "Mom look at your eyes." I knew I had better do something differently. Lovely shade of red was an accurate description.
Day 2 was pretty non eventful; except everything was blurry. Hmm...
Day 3: I'm sure I had one on inside out in the morning. I can't tell you the feeling of taking them out, albeit in the car in a parking lot because I couldn't stand it one more second!
Day 4: After trying for what seemed like 2 hours....probably 20 minutes, full on sweating and swearing, I thought I can't do this today. I told a friend about my morning and she said, "What possessed you to start wearing contacts at this age?" This age? What is that all about? This age? (Of course, she is one that can pop out a contact, spit on it and pop it back in...during a meal. Grrr...)
Day 5: was pretty non eventful; except everything was blurry. (See a theme here?)
Day 6: see day 4
Day 7: Have to see the doctor today. Had to have them on for four hours before I went. Didn't know whether to get up at 2 am or just how to make sure that happened. Luckily, they went in easy today. Of course, as I type this I can't see a blessed letter on the screen. Actually, I can kind of see shapes of letters....just blurry. Thank goodness for touch type! But I am ready! I am READY to fail that vision test! :)
So to my fellow contact wearers.....salute! May I one day be able to join your ranks of popping out/spitting on/and reinserting at the table while eating lunch!
